Siberian State Medical University is among the TOP-3 best medical universities in Russia. In 2017 SibMed obtained the status of the only flagship medical university in Russia. Moreover, the University was selected by the Government of the Russian Federation to take part in the implementation of the project aimed at increasing education exports in Russia. It is remarkable that SibMed is one of the 2 specialized universities selected to work on this project.
Siberian State Medical University provides education to over 6 000 students annually from all parts of Russia and the CIS region as well as many overseas countries (Germany, Haiti, Latvia, Lithuania, Cyprus, Nigeria, Malaysia, India, Mongolia, Kazakhstan). The University has graduated over 60 000 doctors and pharmacists; certified over 40 000 specialists.
Siberian State Medical University is one of the few institutions in Russia that has its own multidisciplinary university hospital. This affects the teaching staff and student body to a large extent. The teaching staff consists of 80% of specialists with academic degrees and titles and 50% practicing doctors. Our students have a unique opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom at the clinics. What is more, the university hospital is not only the place where research and education are conducted but also it welcomes more than 100 thousand patients from all over Russia annually.
The University is one of the most well-known and highly reputable medical schools owing to its top-caliber academic and scientific body and experienced physicians whose names are world-renowned. Among the graduates are 2 presidents of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, 25 associate members of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, 42 academicians.
Siberian State Medical University and its faculty are members of a number of national and international consortiums. In 2014 SSMU initiated the launch of an international consortium on infectious diseases, namely the Tomsk Opisthorchiasis Consortium (TOPIC) that involves Switzerland, Germany, Thailand, the USA, Netherlands. International partners include universities and research organizations in the UK, Germany, the USA, Korea, Japan, Latvia, the CIS region, and others. Also, the University is a holder of several Erasmus+ grants for student and staff mobility.
